And it was bright pink which was chosen to provide a fitting tribute to Jordanna Goodwin and Megan Storey, who were killed alongside their three friends in a horrific car crash in Doncaster.

Poignant scenes played out at Salvation Army’s Lakeside Community Church in Doncaster yesterday as almost 500 people gathered to say goodbye to the popular 16-year-olds.

Tearful teenagers, many of whom were friends from the girls’ Danum Academy in Doncaster, comforted one another outside the venue.

Young people in the close-knit community have been hit by the deaths of Jordanna, Megan and their pals Blake Cairns, 16, Arpad Kore, 18, and Bartosz Bortniczak, 18, whose lives were tragically cut short after the Toyota Corolla they were in was in collision with a Seat Leon car just outside Conisbrough earlier this month.

The pink dress code and flowers - roses and carnations - were chosen to match the girls’ bright pink coffins.

In a packed church, the service reflected on how the girls had lived and died together.

Leading the tributes, the friends, referred to as “Jordy and Megz”, were described as “beautiful, intelligent and captivating” by minister David Hayes.

A final goodbye from Jordanna’s mother Vicki McCarthy, read by friend Vicki Swiffen, said: “Jordy has always made me so proud to be her mother.

“We’ve always had a loyal, close relationship. Her smile was captivating and lit up any room she went into, even though she only had one dimple.

“I have not only lost Jordy but I have lost my adopted daughter Megz, too.

“I will dream of you with every dream I have. You always loved your sleep, so sleep tight. I love you so much.”

Megan’s father Gary Storey remained composed as he read out his moving tributes and memories of the pretty teen, who he revealed had been voted the most attractive girl in her year.

Mr Storey said: “I never thought I would be here doing this. I will never forget the time you first sat on my lap.

“You will forever be in my thoughts until the day we meet again. Sleep tight - I love you.”

Poems were also read out during the service, while a video of the best friends joking with one another was played to funeral-goers. Their favourite songs were played before Puff Daddy’s I’ll Be Missing You bid a final farewell to the girls.

Headteacher Rebecca Staples described the girls, saying: “They were inseparable between classes, they were so close they were like velcro, they were truly stuck together. It is only right they were laid to rest together.”

The crash happened just over a week ago about 100 yards from the scene of another in January 2011, in which three teenagers, aged 14, 15, and 16, died after the car they were in hit a tree and was torn apart. Faded memorials from that tragedy are still visible on a nearby tree.

Warehouse worker Bartosz, a former pupil of Danum Academy, took place on Monday. The funerals of Blake and Arpad will be held place later this week.
