VIDEO: UPDATED: Disruption to North Yorkshire rail services to continue all weekend after train derailed in Knaresborough

Northern Rail said the 06.52am York to Harrogate train derailed near Knaresborough rail station yesterday. (Saturday November 7)

None of the four passengers on board were injured in the incident.

The line was closed between Harrogate and York as an investigation was launched into the derailment.

A replacement bus service will continue to operate between York and Knaresborough and from Knaresborough to York until this evening. (Sunday November 8)

The replacement bus service will call at Knaresborough, Cattal, Hammerton, Poppleton and York.

An hourly train shuttle service is operating from Harrogate to Knaresborough and from Knaresborough to Harrogate calling at Starbeck.

A Northern rail spokesman said: “We are working closely with our colleagues at Network Rail to keep the disruption down to a minimum and an estimate for the resumption of normal train services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and delay this will cause to your journey.”

A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Fire Engines from Knaresborough, Harrogate and Ripon assisted with a train that had derailed on the line at Knaresborough. The train had six carriages and a total of four passengers were assisted to safety by fire crews. No injuries were sustained.”
