Video: We reveal Yorkshire’s Fastest 50 companies

FUEL supplier Transglobal Fuels proved it is really motoring as a company by speeding away with two titles at the 2012 Yorkshire Fastest 50 Awards.

The Batley-based company won the awards for Fastest Growing Large Business and Overall Fastest Growing Business at the event at Aspire Leeds.

Transglobal’s achievement is all the more noteworthy since the business only started life in 2007.

Since then, it has grown at an impressively rapid rate to become one of the leading suppliers of petrol and diesel to both independent fuel retailers and road hauliers right across the UK.

The Transglobal team’s extensive experience and market knowledge in oil distribution and petrol retailing, allied with a focus on creating strong trading relationships with customers and suppliers has proved a potent combination – as well as an award-winning one.

The company beat off competition from outdoor and activity equipment retailer Go Outdoors Limited and discount retailer Poundworld Retail Limited, who were second and third respectively, to win the Fastest Growing Large Business award.

Transglobal Fuels were not the only winners at the awards, organised and sponsored by top 100 UK law firm Ward Hadaway in association with the Yorkshire Post.

MSM Foods Limited of Normanton was named as the Fastest Growing Small Business.

The food wholesaler has carved out a profitable niche in the market supplying Polish food to a wide range of retailers nationwide.

MSM won the title ahead of last year’s fastest-growing small business – schools software specialist Frogtrade Limited – and electricity and remote metering company JW Instruments Limited, who were second and third respectively.

Complete IT Systems Limited, which is based in Bradford, won the award for the Fastest Growing Medium-Sized Business.

Living up to its name, the company provides a wide range of IT solutions, products and services to customers across the UK. Its technology partners include the likes of Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Cisco and IBM.

Complete IT Systems held off the challenge of second-placed Stag Security Systems Limited and third-placed protective workwear maker Microgard Limited to win the fastest growing medium-sized business title.

The winning companies and the runners-up were revealed before an audience of over 200 Fastest 50 company representatives and Yorkshire business leaders at Aspire Leeds on Friday March 16.

Gary Verity, chief executive of destination marketing organisation Welcome to Yorkshire, was the special guest at the event and gave the keynote speech, outlining the importance of tourism to Yorkshire’s economy and the effect that a successful tourist industry can have on business in the county.

Yorkshire Post Business Editor Bernard Ginns introduced the awards, which reward profit-making privately-owned companies and organisations in the region which have shown the strongest sales growth over recent years.

The highly respected Bradford University School of Management compiled the Yorkshire Fastest 50 list for 2012.

Jamie Martin, managing partner at event sponsor and organiser Ward Hadaway, announced the award winners and also spoke about how the top 100 UK law firm has seen its own operation in Yorkshire grow since it was established in Leeds in 2008.

Jamie said: “In many respects, every business in the Yorkshire Fastest 50 is a winner since they have achieved terrific levels of growth during what has been an extremely challenging time for the economy.

“The Yorkshire Fastest 50 Awards aim to highlight and celebrate the quality, diversity and abilities of the county’s companies and to provide a positive focus for Yorkshire’s business community.

“Hopefully, they have done just that and we would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the event and who attended what proved to be a truly memorable occasion.”
