Video: Yorkshire brings out the bunting on a Jubilee weekend to remember

From simple street parties with a few neighbours to a festival complete with vintage cars, the Queen’s 60-year reign was marked in style on Saturday, with three more days of festivities to come.

The great British spirit shone through the leaden skies as local communities, from young children to great-grandparents, came together for a weekend of royal festivities.

And while the sun stayed away there was no lack of colour among Yorkshire’s streets.

Wherever you went, towns, cities and villages were adorned with flags and bunting, turning our green and pleasant land into a flurry of red, white and blue.

Across the county there were events of all shapes and sizes.

In both Leeds and Hull, giant screens were set to beam back all the pomp and pageantry from events in London, while Rotherham was holding its biggest ever street party with a 1950s-themed event, featuring a vintage market and a steam train, along with tea dances and a parade of classic cars.

Doncaster was using the royal occasion for its own “Big Launch” to celebrate both the Jubilee and the official opening of the Sir Nigel Gresley Square in the town centre.

In North Yorkshire, Ripon Cathedral has been providing a focal point for events with a Jubilee service and a street party in the nave.

While at Chatsworth, seat of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, they have been flying the royal colours with a four-day street party.
