Views are sought on plans to improve paddling pools

Leisure bosses have secured funding to improve play facilities for disabled children, and said they planned to use the cash on the pools in the Rivelin Valley to benefit all children using the facility.

An exhibition showing the proposals for the refurbishment will go on display in the Rivelin Valley cafe on Sunday and will remain on show until the end of February.

Leigh Bramall, Sheffield Council’s environment spokesman said: “I hope people will come along and give us their comments on the refurbishment so we can provide facilities that people will prefer.

“The funding is for the specific use at Rivelin Valley and without the cash the pools will have a very limited life-expectancy.”

The four paddling pools were originally fed by filtered river water, which flowed into the top pool and cascaded through each pool before returning to the river.

A recirculation and chlorination system was added in the 1980s which pumps water into each of the pools and the system was last upgraded in the mid-1990s.
