Views sought on school holiday dates

A COUNCIL is asking people to come forward to share their views and comments on school holidays.

Education chiefs have prepared a draft calendar for the 2011-2012, 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years and Wakefield Council wants to get as many views as possible.

It has been working with other councils in Yorkshire and Humber to set the dates of school terms.

Antony Sadler, the council's service director for school business development and support, said: "Lining up holiday dates across neighbouring councils can be a real help to families who have children attending different schools in different areas.

"It will also help parents who have children at primary and secondary schools.

"We are giving the district's community the chance to have their say on the pattern of school terms and holidays and we hope that as many as possible will let us have their views."

The draft calendar is available at www.wakefield.gov.uk/schoolholidaydates. Alternatively, response forms are available from schools and libraries, or by contacting School Governor Services, County Hall, Wakefield WF1 2QL or by phoning 01924 305638.

The closing date for responses is April 30.
