Village bobby jailed for sex abuse

A retired police officer was jailed for seven years for the sexual abuse of boys when he was a village bobby.

Judge Andrew Barnett told “pillar of the community” Gordon Hunter he was “a disgrace to the uniform he once wore” for attacking the two adolescent boys in the 1980s and 1990s.

Married Hunter, 64, befriended the victims and starting touch- ing them before moving on to more serious sexual acts. The offences with the first victim started when he was a village policeman in Whitchurch, Hampshire.

Hunter from Ashurst denied 14 charges, but was found guilty by a jury.
