Village to celebrate textile heritage

The rich textile industry of a Leeds village is to be celebrated later this month.

Among the highlights of the Farsley Festival, which attracted around 5,000 people last year for a Diamond Jubilee-themed celebration, will be a sheep parade, a mini teepee festival, games and entertainment.

The annual festival is set to celebrate the village’s history and its bustling mill heritage which spans over the centuries.

Organisers of the festival are inviting local bands, choirs, singers and dancers to take centre stage at the extravaganza on Monday, May 27, between 1pm and 5pm.

Howard Bradley, who helps to organise the festival, said: “The team behind the festival are eager for as much of Farsley to be involved as possible.

“We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support the event both by helping on the day itself and by joining a local steering committee, who can think creatively and come up with wild and wonderful ideas to try at the festival over the coming years. If you think you could bring something to the team please get in touch.”

There will also be a makers market in the car park at Sunny Bank Mills to showcase local produce.
