Village puts singing postman on Facebook

A SINGING postman has been given the stamp of approval by the villagers who have set up a Facebook page in his honour.

Shane Powell, 42, provides a first class service when he serenades his customers as he paces the streets of Stainforth, Doncaster.

Now each day he addresses his 850 members on the page Stainforth, Home to the Happiest Postman with a message about the weather and also contributes witty observations.

One customer has posted on the page: “This is a tribute to the happiest postman known to man. He sings constantly and is known to all Stainforth residents. So as an upstanding citizen of our community we salute you Shane.”

Another reads: “He is the happiest postie to walk the streets of Britain.”

The Facebook page was set up by resident Emma Carlin because his singing during his daily rounds always made her smile.

Shane, from Thorne, said: “She said she was having a bad day and my singing cheered her up a bit so she put a tribute out to me on Facebook. She named the page and the response to it has been amazing. I never expected anything like this.

“I am naturally upbeat and I love to sing as I do my rounds. It’s lovely to know I am appreciated.

“The things I enjoy about my job the most are the fresh air, my good customers, seeing the seasons pass and now sharing what I see with everyone who looks at the Facebook page.

“I always remain happy because even when bad times come our way we can always deal with them positively.”
