Villagers tackle short-cut misery

Residents in a village near Selby are trying to tackle anti social behaviour.

The people of Barlby are worried about littering, vandalism and late-night noise in a short cut.

The short cut – between Barlby Crescent and Riverside Close – has now had a £3,000 fence installed.

Chairman of the Eastern Area Forum Coun Bill Inness said: “We know from what people have told us at forum meetings that this area being used as a short cut has caused a great deal of misery for residents.

“This has been an innovative scheme that has seen the Eastern CEF work hard at linking up with other organisations, including Barlby Parish Council, to tackle anti social behaviour.

“Particularly impressive is that this initiative shows how these organisations can benefit the community by working together coherently.

“In particular the support received from York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust’s Community Payback Team, North Yorkshire Police, Chevin Housing and the local residents has been invaluable.”

Barlby Parish Council has been instrumental in working to tackle anti-social behaviour in this area.
