Vintage vehicles go under hammer

A HUGE collection of vintage vehicles and farm machinery will be up for sale at the Welwick Heritage Weekend next week.

Frank Hill and Son Auctioneers will hold their 19th annual auction at the event, with more than 1,000 lots going under the hammer.

Some of the more eye-catching pieces will be three horse-drawn farm wagons, among the last of those used in the East Riding.

A spokeswoman for the auctioneers said: “Amongst the nearly 1000 lots of interesting items are three horse-drawn farm wagons, the last of those used throughout the East Riding by our forefathers to lead home the corn and hay for the long winters ahead.”

One of these is a Wolds Wagon made by the well known Beswick Farm of wagon builders Sissons and Sons.

The wagons are being sold by retired farm worker and garage owner George Charlton.

Other items include a six-cylinder Ruston Hornsby diesel engine, a 1962 Hillman Super Minx Saloon, a 1959 Morris Minor Saloon, and a hospital generator.

The sale takes place at Moat Farm on Saturday, October 8, from 11am.
