Patrick, of Holtdale Avenue, Holt Park, was three years into a 15 year sentence for an attack in September 2011, when he died.

He was jailed along with accomplice Michael Collins after the pair stormed into a Leeds flat at Regent Court in Horsforth and demanded cash from two men and a woman.

Leeds Crown Court heard Patrick used a 12 inch kitchen knife to stab one of the men in the head and leg. When the 28-year-old woman, who was eight months pregnant, tried to call police she was pushed to the ground.

The unborn baby survived.

The pair - who both have long criminal records - fled with two mobile phones and £200 cash.

They had both denied the offences but were found guilty after a trial.

Patrick, was convicted of wounding with intent, actual bodily harm, robbery and affray and sentenced to 15 years by Judge James Spencer QC.

Collins, who was 29 at the time, was found guilty of robbery and affray and was sentenced to 12 years.

A spokesman for Serco, which runs HMP Lowdham Grange said: “Tragically a prisoner at HMP Lowdham Grange died at the weekend. There will be an inquiry into the circumstances of the death in due course.”

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said they are now preparing a file for the coroner.
