Visitor boost for town’s antiques fair

AN antiques fair in Yorkshire has reported a rise in visitor numbers in a move that is being heralded as a return to confidence in the economy.

The Harrogate Antique and Fine Art Fair saw about 9,000 visitors through the doors of Harrogate International Centre (HIC) from May 2 to May 5. The figure is up from about 8,000 in 2013 and represents a major step towards the 10,000 visitors the show enjoyed before the economic downturn of 2008, according to organiser Louise Walker.

She said: “Things are improving – people are starting to feel a little bit easier about their pockets.

“It seems to be returning to strength after some difficult years for the economy as a whole.” The fair has been held in Harrogate for more than 30 years and now takes place at HIC each spring and autumn.
