Visitors to be served up with works of art at charity event

VISITORS to a North Yorkshire gallery will be able to dine amongst works of art as the building is transformed into a restaurant for a glittering charity event.

Diners attending Scarborough Museums Trust’s (SMT) annual fund-raising dinner at the town’s art gallery next month will enjoy a unique view of its impressive collection of paintings.

For the first time in over 70 years the venue is throwing open its doors to dinner guests, with the downstairs galleries being converted into a one-off pop-up restaurant on March 17.

The exclusive dinner will offer a sneak preview of the gallery’s latest exhibition, Fears, Foes and Faeries, which will not open to the public until March 23.

Dinner will be followed by an auction of lots, including a cricket bat signed by the Yorkshire County Cricket Club team and a large canvas copy of Ernest Roe’s Wreck Below the Grand Hotel – one of the paintings currently on display in the gallery.

SMT’s chief executive Shirley Collier said: “The annual dinner has become quite a highlight of the Scarborough social calendar. Last year’s raised over £5,000, which contributed to SMT’s essential work with young people. We hope to raise even more this year for the same cause.”

Tickets are £40 and are available from SMT on 01723 384503 or by emailing [email protected]
