Visitors encouraged to see woods for trees

SHEFFIELD-based experts are encouraging nature lovers to get out their cameras and pencils to help record the wildlife they spot at Sherwood Pines Forest Park, the largest woodland in the East Midlands open to the public.

The Forestry Commission is adding creative workshops to activities at the 3,000-acre site.

Richard Ashbee, from Norton Lees in Sheffield, will be running a beginners’ photography course on Saturday September 8, followed by a workshop a week later on close-up wildlife photography.

He said: “You can also do this kind of photography in your back garden, whether it’s to capture a bird feeding or a close up of a bee.

“Patience, technique and confidence are key ingredients and I’ll be sharing the secrets of getting top results at the workshop.”

Meanwhile, artist Jean Binney, also from Sheffield, will run an art class on Sunday August 26.

Lindsey Brown, Forestry Commission education ranger, said: “Photography and sketching are great ways to see the world in a new light.”
