The film, called This City Belongs to Everyone, will be screened to judges in Derry on November 14 as the city makes its final presentation to become the culture capital of 2017.

It will also be shown to every school pupil in the city and visitors to Ferens Art Gallery in a preview two days earlier, while also gaining an audience of about 20,000 people when played at the switch-on of the city’s Christmas lights, also on November 14.

The film, which also features the poetry of Philip Larkin, is intended to portray the “heart of Hull” - its people - and its individuality, the city council said.

A diverse range of residents also feature in the movie, made by Hull-based Nova Studios, including a teacher, a greengrocer, a magician, an artist, and the Lord Mayor, Coun Nadine Fudge.

Jon Pywell, from the City of Culture Bid Team, said: “Nova Studios have perfectly captured the true essence of Hull and its people with this film.

“Being from the city, they have ensured this is truly a piece of work ‘made in Hull’ and that shines through as it reflects the spirit of Hull’s people, the rules they live by and their readiness to break away from them to get things done.

“It is an uplifting and a moving film which reflects this city’s humour and warmth and I hope it will leave a lasting impression with the judges.”
