Voices raised for Britten

HUNDREDS of Yorkshire children yesterday celebrated the centenary of composer Benjamin Britten with a performance 
at the Howard Assembly Room in 
Leeds.

They were part of a national celebration which saw 100,000 youngsters from across the country simultaneously singing Britten’s Friday Afternoons song cycle.

The children also sang new compositions inspired by Britten by seven of the country’s top young composers.
