Volunteer railway gets on track with free rent deal

VOLUNTEER-RUN Wensleydale Railway can remain at its Bedale base rent free.

The group can continue to use Station House as its headquarters and for the ticket office, waiting room, platform and car park without cost in return for any maintenance work on it.

The deal until 2021 was agreed by Hambleton District Council which owns the building in Craft Yard.

“This group is run entirely by volunteers who work hard to find grant aid to develop the line,” said deputy council leader Peter Wilkinson.

“It is a valuable asset to the economy of the district and by giving free use of the building we can support our aim to create vibrant market towns.”
