Volunteers needed to help at stately home

IT IS known throughout the region as one of Yorkshire’s grandest homes.

Now people are being given the opportunity to get involved in its running.

Beningbrough Hall and Gardens, a grand red brick mansion built in 1716, just north of York, is looking for volunteers who like meeting people and who have good communication skills.

Treasurer’s House, in York, is also looking for volunteers and people are being urged to attend upcoming open days to find out more.

Lisa Holden, National Trust visitor services manager said: “As we prepare for 2013, we will be looking for more volunteers and paid roles to support across all areas of the house. You don’t need to be a history buff to help out.

“As well as the key role of room guides, who help bring the house to life by telling the fascinating stories of the house face to face, we are also looking for volunteers to support with our social media, website and photography, gardening, events, tour guiding and learning programmes, allowing us to capture our history in increasingly diverse ways for our visitors to enjoy.

“In return volunteering with us can offer people the chance to develop or learn new skills, give something extra to their social life or simply enjoy spending a few hours a week in a fantastic setting.”
