Volunteers wanted for chaplaincy

VOLUNTEERS are wanted to help with hospital chaplaincy services in Grimsby and Scunthorpe.

Recruits will join a small group of dedicated volunteers taking part in ward visits and accompanying patients to hospital chapels.

The Rev Charles Thody, lead chaplain at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Our volunteers are a vital aspect of the work of the chaplaincy and are all very much part of the team. We have some volunteers who come into the hospitals to visit patients on the wards during the week, and others who come in when there is a service in the chapel to accompany patients who have asked to come and join in.

“Patients tell us how much they appreciate the visits as being in hospital can be a lonely experience. Receiving a visit from one of our volunteers often does so much to lift their spirits.”

All volunteers will require police and medical clearance and will be given training. To volunteer or find out more call (01724) 282282.
