Vote 2010

Good dayGordon Brown: The Prime Minister has had nothing to cheer about in this election – the TV leaders' debates have seen to that – but the 0.2 per cent rise in economic output, though marginal, offers Mr Brown a tiny glimmer of hope for one reason and it is this: imagine the fallout, and the cataclysmic effect on Labour's campaign, if Britain had slipped back into a state of recession.

Bad day

Jon Trickett: Gordon Brown's private secretary, who is defending the Hemsworth seat for Labour, found himself caught up in the growing row over election leaflets – and whether they misrepresent Tory policies towards the elderly. The Conservatives say Mr Trickett is to blame. He disagrees. Either way, Labour is damaged by this episode.

Quote of the day

"A couple of kids in short trousers ... running around saying Britain is broke."

My manifesto

Simple.

Taking tourism seriously. For every 1 invested in Welcome to Yorkshire, Yorkshire tourism returned 18 to the Chancellor – 171m in all. But we are doing all this from the political sidelines. The Government needs to maintain funding for regions that provide strong returns on investment and find a place for tourism at the heart of Westminster.
