Vote plea for footpath money

VISITORS to the Yorkshire Dales are being urged to vote to help to secure the money needed for urgent conservation work.

More than £25,000 is available in funding from the European Outdoor Conservation Association to repair a section of the footpath network near Pen y ghent that is badly eroded and in need of attention.

But national park chiefs say the scheme is up against three other projects from across the country and have urged visitors to vote for it to help to secure the funding.

The footpath is part of the route on the Three Peaks challenge.

Steve Hastie, a ranger for the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and Three Peaks project manager, said: “The work people will be voting for would allow the Three Peaks route to be more environmentally sustainable in the long-term.”

To vote, visit www.lfto.com/conservation from March 9. Voting ends on March 23 and the winner is announced in July.
