Votes fraud investigation result to be revealed

POLICE will reveal the outcome of an investigation into allegations of General Election voting fraud in Halifax this week.

Officers insist a "full and detailed" investigation has been carried out in spite of a Conservative MP raising the issue in Parliament calling for an "immediate and full" investigation into the allegations raised by Philip Allott, the defeated Tory candidate in Halifax.

Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker has tabled a motion in the House of Commons claiming there had been "resistance" to a full investigation.

Mr Allott has handed police five pages of evidence of incidents including people allegedly voting from empty properties in the constituency, voters claiming someone had voted on their behalf and people signing more than one postal voting form.

Calderdale Council admits 763 postal ballots were rejected at the election, and says they will be kept for at least a year – easing concerns by Mr Allott that they could be destroyed as early as this week.

Calderdale Divisional Commander Ch Supt Alan Ford said: "The Conservative Party in Calderdale is fully aware that a meeting has been arranged for Friday for West Yorkshire Police to provide the outcome of the full and detailed investigation into the allegations made."
