LAW firm Walker Morris yesterday revealed that it had appointed the former Deloitte managing partner, Stuart Counsell, as its first non-executive board director.

Mr Counsell spent more than 30 years at Deloitte. He held a number of senior management positions, including managing partner of Deloitte’s 17 UK regional offices.

During his time at Deloitte, he was responsible for the financial and legal aspects of a £2bn professional services business. He was also heavily involved in the firm’s acquisition programmes.

Ian Gilbert, Walker Morris’s managing partner, said: “We are delighted to have recruited someone of Stuart’s calibre and experience. As our very first appointment of a non executive director, we wanted someone who not only had knowledge and experience of operating at the highest level in the professional services industry, but also understood the unique culture of Walker Morris.”

Mr Counsell added “I’m very much looking forward to renewing my relationship with Walker Morris, a firm I worked closely with on many corporate finance engagements while at Deloitte.”

Mr Counsell said he would help the management team at Walker Morris to look for “new avenues of high added value legal services”. Altogether, Walker Morris has 499 staff based in Leeds. Its turnover for 2011/2012 was £41m.
