Wanted: army of Low Carbon Guides

RESIDENTS in Harrogate are being urged to go green to help cut carbon emissions by 40 per cent over the next decade.

The new campaign, which is called How to Live a Low Carbon Life, is being spearheaded by Harrogate Borough Council and aims to recruit volunteers to help residents make carbon-cutting lifestyle choices.

The volunteers, called Low Carbon Guides, are trained to create support groups within the community to help each other cut down on energy waste.

Marie Parker, one of the first Low Carbon Guides in the town, is working with a group of young mums. She said: "It is a bit like a diet group, where we all meet and discuss our successes and our failures so that we can all learn together. I am happy to do my bit but we need more volunteers from all areas of the district."

Last year the council set its proposals to reduce carbon emissions by 40 per cent by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050.
