War medals stolen during break-in

TWO military medals commemorating the first Gulf War have been stolen during a raid on a North Yorkshire business.

The medals, which were in a presentation box with a brass plate, were taken along with two red Hewlett Packard laptops when the North Coast 4x4 vehicle hire firm on Richmond Road in Catterick Garrison was broken into at some point between 9pm and 9.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

North Yorkshire Police officers have been reviewing closed circuit television footage in the area, which shows a man forcing his way into the premises through a side door. The offender is described as white, about
5ft 11ins and stocky. He was
wearing a sleeveless bomber jacket, a T-shirt, a baseball cap and gloves.

Police officers who are investigating the burglary confirmed yesterday that they believe there may be potential witnesses to the offence as the hire company is located directly opposite a busy McDonald’s restaurant.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number of 101.
