Ward to reopen after improvements

A WARD at Bridlington Hospital will reopen this week after being refurbished.

The revamp of Johnson Ward has included decorating, flooring improvements, and better infection control measures, which Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust said has created a better environment for patients.

James Hayward, director of facilities, said the work was long overdue and was part of a wider programme of improvement at Bridlington Hospital.

"It is also part of our measures to improve the environment in support of delivering our privacy and dignity agenda.

"There have been many calls upon the trust to refurbish the wards at Bridlington. Some wards have not been decorated for more than 20 years which is not acceptable. If we are to offer the highest standards of care to our patients, we need to ensure that the patient environment is fit for purpose."

Patients and staff on Kent Ward will transfer to Johnson Ward.

East Yorkshire MP Greg Knight has invited Health Secretary Andrew Lansley is to visit the hospital to discuss the future of services in the town.
