Warning after elderly woman robbed

A ROBBER pushed his way into the home of an elderly woman and stole her handbag, leaving her “very distressed”.

Police in Sheffield are appealing for information following the robbery in Norton Lane earlier this month.

The elderly woman answered the door to a man, who then pushed her away and searched the property before leaving with her purse and handbag.

Detective inspector Chris Singleton said: “This is a particularly intrusive crime and a very distressing incident for the victim.

“I would encourage people to be vigilant about their security, to take the usual precautions by keeping their doors locked at all times, think about whether you are expecting anyone, look through the window before answering the door and avoid opening the door to strangers.

“If you must open the door, use a door chain. We are appealing to anyone who has any information about this incident.”

The robber is described as white, in his early twenties and about 5ft 8in tall, with a “round” face.

Anyone with information on the incident, which took place at 7.10pm on Sunday, January 22, should call police on 101.
