Warning after firefighting tools stolen

FIRE-FIGHTING equipment has been stolen after thieves broke into a fire appliance parked ina North Yorkshire village.

Police said the theft in Danby, near Whitby, could have led to a tragedy if fire crews had attended an emergency without the specialist tools.

After breaking into the appliance at Danby fire station in Ainthorpe Lane between December 14 and 17, thieves stole a red door enforcer, a pair of blue bolt croppers and a Halligan bar, a specialist tool used to force entry to properties.

Pc Darren Mortimer said: “This is a despicable theft. Had the fire engine been called to an emergency which required firefighters to force entry to a property, not having the essential equipment could have led to a tragedy.

“If you have any information about those responsible for this theft, I urge you to contact the police straight away.”
