The vehicle has stopped and the road is now blocked, and a specialist police team is on scene.

One man has been arrested for tampering with a vehicle, and a woman has been arrested for obstructing the highway.

The force said one man is still on top of the lorry.

Residents are able to pass the obstruction on foot to access their homes but the road is blocked to vehicles.

The village has been plagued by controversy in recent months, after campaigners began protesting in August outside a planned fracking site in Habton Road.

Superintendent Alisdair Dey, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “This protest activity will have a significant impact on the local community this morning. Police are doing all they can to minimise disruption to residents.”
