Warning as burglaries on increase

POLICE have warned householders to remain alert after an increase in the number of burglaries in the Kirkheaton area of Huddersfield during the autumn.

West Yorkshire Police officers are appealing for information and urging residents to take care of their property, especially items they leave in garages or sheds. Fifteen burglaries took place during September and October compared to five in July and August.

Det Cons David Lock, of Kirklees CID, said many homes were probably targeted as a result of the darker nights, with offenders specifically targeting sheds and garages and uPVC door locks.

He said: “I am appealing for information from the public that may help us identify any offenders responsible burglaries in the Kirkheaton area.

“As well as passing us information, people can also help us by helping themselves and keeping all valuables out of sight, away from windows or doors. Car keys should also be kept away from doors and windows, which should be kept locked and secure when people are not in rooms.”
