Warning on the cards for criminals

HUNDREDS of criminals have been sent Christmas cards by Humberside Police telling them to behave over the holidays.

Repeat offenders, shoplifters and those with anti-social behaviour orders or drinking banning orders have been targeted, officers said.

Prolific criminals have been hand-delivered cards saying: "Don't spend time behind the wrong bars this Christmas. Humberside Police will be working as usual over the festive period.

"If you are caught committing crime we will arrest you – be warned."

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Young, from Hull's criminal investigation department, said: "The repeat offenders identified to receive the prolific offender card have previously been responsible for a disproportionate about of criminality across Hull.

"The hand-delivered Christmas cards will undoubtedly reinforce the message that we will continue to target them, unless they stop committing crime and causing nuisance to the people of Hull."

The 30 most prolific shoplifters have also had Christmas cards as well as 25 other known or suspected shoplifters in each neighbourhood policing team area.
