Warning to motorists on roadworks

DRIVERS are being warned of roadworks across Wakefield as the city council continues a £2.5m investment scheme in 60 miles of roads and paths.

Works are taking place on Hill Top Road in Newmillerdam on Wednesday May 30. The road will be closed for one day and a diversion will be signposted.

Coun Denise Jeffery, cabinet member for regeneration, said roadworks are taking place across the district as part of the ongoing maintenance programme.

“We apologise to drivers and other road users for any inconvenience caused but these works are necessary to maintain and improve our roads,” she said.

However, not all roadworks in the district are part of Wakefield Council’s road improvement projects.

A lane will be closed on Whitwood Common Lane, at the junction with Pioneer Way, in Castleford, as Yorkshire Water carry out works from today to May 30.

BT works have been taking place on Westfield Road in Horbury, from Matty Marsden Lane to Wensley Street. The work began on Friday last week and is due to finish today. The traffic has been controlled using lights during these times.
