Warning over access to town hall

CONTRACTORS working to convert parts of a town hall into a new museum have warned they will have to restrict access to the building for the latest stage of the project.

Barnsley Town Hall is currently in the middle of a project to create an attraction to be called Experience Barnsley, which is being paid for with lottery money,

The museum was supposed to open last July, but the best estimate for its completion is now May next year. The restricted access will, according to the council, allow for “external works”.

Weddings, civil ceremonies and other public events are still taking place at the town hall and a council spokesman said people with bookings had been contacted about the access issues.

Coun Roy Miller, the council’s culture spokesman, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Patience during this time is most appreciated.”
