Warning over future water crisis as population booms

Yorkshire Water is also on a mission to urge consumers to view water as precious resource with the launch of a campaign asking: ‘Why use more than you need?’

The recent drought in East and South Yorkshire did not impact on the region’s water supplies, as its £300m underground grid of pipes was used to manage and balance stocks by moving water around.

However, the company is still keen to encourage responsible consumption.

Chief executive Richard Flint said: “Water conservation is still incredibly important, particularly when you think that as a country we’re using more water than ever, and populations are only set to rise, putting further pressures on water resources.”
