Warning over widepread drug abuse in pubs
Licensees are being urged to take a zero tolerance approach to drugs after police revealed that use of stimulants was “widespread” in some East Riding pubs.
Drugs, including cocaine, MCAT, and amphetamines, are particularly a problem in pubs which attract a younger crowd and open until the early hours.
Insp David Braysmith said some pubs now operated as “de facto nightclubs” because of extended opening hours, adding: “What we are noticing is that drug use is relatively widespread.
“It is not just town-based pubs, we have seen use in smaller community pubs in some villages.”
