Warning to school-run parents after man held for dangerous driving

A man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after he allegedly tried to drive away from police giving out tickets at a Yorkshire school.

He will now be summonsed to court in connection with the offence.

The arrest has prompted a warning to problem parkers near Fixby Junior and Infant School in Huddersfield.

Police say they will take action against drivers who park and drive badly outside the school following a number of complaints and incidents over the past few weeks, including double parking and traffic congestion which puts children at risk.

Sergeant Sarah Taylor, of Huddersfield North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We’ve had a number of complaints about poor and frankly dangerous parking and driving in this area.

“It is clearly an issue which is concerning our residents and therefore an issue we are looking to tackle.

“We are working closely with the school and residents’ groups and will take action against those causing what are some real traffic problems there.

“Poor parking increases congestion and reduces visibility, potentially putting children in danger. This is just not acceptable and we have to get the message through.

“I would ask parents to avoid the immediate outside of the school if possible when dropping off their children and park a little further away on one of the nearby side roads.”
