Waste firm to outline plans for wind power

A WASTE management company is inviting people in North Lincolnshire to comment on plans to create a wind farm at a landfill site in Winterton.

Waste Recycling Group wants to build four wind turbines at its Winterton Landfill site and will provide details of the proposals at a public exhibition on Tuesday, September 28.

The turbines would have a maximum height of 125 metres to the tip of the blades and would be capable of generating enough electricity to power up to 5,700 homes.

Representatives of the firm will be on hand to answer any questions visitors may have about the project, or about wind energy.

Mike Snell, head of external affairs at WRG, said: "We welcome the opportunity to hear what the local residents think about the Iron Stone Quarry wind energy project.

"Building on our well-established track record in energy recovery, WRG is now taking an innovative approach to finding additional ways to use its landholding to help generate renewable energy in the UK.

"The UK is one of the windiest countries in Europe and harnessing the wind to produce clean and renewable energy is an excellent way to provide a secure supply of electricity for people living in the UK."

On the north bank of the Humber in the East Riding wind farms have been one of the most controversial planning issues of recent years.

The East Riding has already met its renewable energy targets for 2021 after a raft of wind farm applications were approved – some imposed by the Government on appeal.

Last week, plans for two wind farms close to the village of Spaldington were rejected by councillors.

The Winterton plans will be on display at West Halton Village Hall from 1pm to 8pm.
