In footage captured by a neighbour, the driver is seen approaching the junction of Providence Road at around 7.50am today.
However, as the car breaks approaching the junction, it begins to skid on black ice and hurtles into the middle of Walkley Bank Road.
The driver narrowly avoids crashing into another car travelling up the street and comes to a stop in the middle of the busy road.
An eyewitness said that there have already been three crashes at the junction this morning before neighbours covered the road with grit from nearby grit bins.
Black ice has already caused chaos on a number of roads in Sheffield with bus routes being heavily affected.
South Yorkshire Fire and Service issued a warning about sheet ice and treacherous road conditions earlier this morning and Stagecoach Supertram reiterated the message, warning passengers of black ice on roads, pavements and tram platforms.
The South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership has issued driving advice to motorists on icy roads today.
A spokesman said: "Stopping distances can be up to 10 times greater in icy conditions.
"Please take extra care if you're driving or riding this morning.
"Pedestrians, stay well back from the kerb and be aware when crossing the road that vehicles may take longer to stop."
