We won't let Green slip through our fingers, say his Huddersfield glove makers

THE HUDDERSFIELD company that makes England goalkeeper Robert Green's gloves have vowed to stand by him despite his weekend World Cup howler.

The 30-year-old keeper has been under siege after his gaffe cost England a win against the USA on Saturday, but Sells Goalkeeper Products are giving him their full support.

For 10 years, the West Ham and former Norwich keeper has been one of the faces of the company.

Sells is a niche provider of professional quality gloves and accessories for keepers and retains a small number of Premiership stars as ambassadors.

While it may not be the best time to have the under-fire goalie as the face of your product, marketing director David Baxter assures doubters they are backing the England man.

He said: 'We're giving him our full support. The truth is if a keeper makes a mistake it's a goal, but players like Emile Heskey or Shaun Wright-Phillips can miss five and people hardly notice.

'We believe he will get the nod for the next game, but regardless of Mr Capello's decision we'll be sticking with Robert.

'He made a really good save in the second half of the USA game. All you need is the next good performance and it's forgotten about.'

But he believes that the manager's policy of not informing his goalkeepers who is between the sticks until two hours before the game should be looked at again.

He added: 'I think that goalkeeper is a special position. You need time to mentally prepare because it's a position of trust. Also you have to focus, because you can spend a lot of the 90 minutes away from the action.'

The keeper uses the firm's Wrap Axis Aqua gloves, which retail to the public at around 60 .
