Weary festival fans head home

These music fans heading for Leeds station yesterday were among thousands of weary-looking Leeds Festival-goers who swamped buses and trains as they made their way home.

Every inch of spare space in the station was taken up with backpacks, tents and sleeping mats as well as hundreds of burnt-out music lovers.

Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose brought the three-day festival to a close on Sunday night with a foul-mouthed tirade against police and promoters.

He told the crowd the band was informed it would be allowed to play until just before midnight but was pulled off stage at around 11.15pm.

The band had been 35 minutes late to the stage.

But despite the hostility towards promoters and police, the band played for nearly two hours and was met with a warm welcome from thousands of fans on the festival’s last night.
