Weather warnings in place for weekend

The Met Office said there would also be a risk of snow along the coast on Sunday through to the early part of the week as north westerly winds hit the area - particularly Whitby.

Dan Williams, of the Met Office, said: “A lot of places will see dry but cold weather on both days but there is just that risk of catching those wintry showers.”

Snow dominated the landscape in parts of Yorkshire today (Fri) as the nation was warned to brace itself for fresh disruption from icy conditions.

Racehorses made their way back from the gallops at Middleham across snow covered Dales and many people began their day clearing cars and driveways.

The Met Office issued an ice warning for the whole UK as forecasters said conditions would stay cold over the weekend and into next week.

“Thundersnow” storms battered large parts of northern Britain on Thursday.

Manchester Airport was open yesterday after it closed both of its runways for several hours on Thursday but passengers were warned of delays.
