Flurries of sleet or snow may appear over higher ground and an alert for snow has been issued for western parts of Yorkshire during the morning with temporary blizzard conditions possible in strong winds, making driving conditions hazardous.

There is also a risk of interruption to power supplies.

Up to 10cm or more of snow may be seen on hills, while there may also be slushy accumulations at low levels.

Daytime temperatures are expected to peak at around 5C.

A Met Office spokesman said tomorrow and Friday could see some stormy weather but Nick Prebble, a forecaster for MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said the storm would most likely move south to pass over France and Germany.

He said: “There was a storm forecast for Thursday night into Friday in Yorkshire but it isn’t looking like it will hit now. There will be fresh winds of around 30mph.”

Wintry showers were possible, mainly over higher ground on the eastern flanks of the Pennines. “There may be one or two flurries that might catch Sheffield and there could be a flurry in Leeds on Thursday.”

Night time temperatures would get down to about zero and ice could be a hazard especially if there were one or two showers.

Leeds will see a maximum of 7C tomorrow.

The strong winds across Yorkshire last night which were set to continue into the early hours of this morning could be replaced with lighter winds of around 30-40mph by noon.
