Cold snap warning for region

There were wintry scenes in Pateley Bridge in North Yorkshire yesterday as forecasters warned a cold snap was set to descend on the region – with temperatures plummeting as low as minus seven.

Frost will hit parts of Yorkshire this week and snow showers are expected on higher ground, bringing to an end a run of unseasonably mild weather this winter.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said: “It is going to be a cold and frosty week. While largely dry, there will be some wintry showers and people will see similar scenes to Pateley Bridge. Most people will really notice the cold this week.

The Department of Health has issued a ‘Level 2’ cold-weather alert, which is triggered when low temperatures give rise to significant health risks. For full weather updates visit www.metoffice.gov.uk
