Huge hunt launched over angler missing on coast
Nigel Savage, 49, from Beverley, failed to return home from a fishing trip to Burniston Cliffs, near Scarborough, and yesterday land and sea searches took place off the North Yorkshire coast.
A helicopter from RAF Boulmer, RNLI inshore and offshore lifeboats from Scarborough, along with coastguard rescue teams from Scarborough, Burniston and Ravenscar all helped with the search.

Hide AdMr Savage’s green Peugeot was found at around 3.30am yesterday in a lay-by at Crook Ness, Field Lane, Burniston, and his two springer spaniels were later discovered on the cliff tops nearby. His rucksack and some fishing tackle were also found on the cliffs but there was no sign of Mr Savage, who was expected home at 9.30pm on Thursday.
Mike Green, watch manager at Humber Coastguard, said: “We are focusing on searching an area of coastline two miles either side of Hundale Point and two miles out to sea. It is quite a complex operation, as the local coastline has very steep, craggy cliffs.”
Anyone with any information is urged to call Humberside Police on 101.
