It’s hotter than Rome - and set fair for next weekend, too
Temperatures were expected to reach as high as 19C (66.2F) in parts of the country - hotter than Rome, the Greek islands of Zante and Kefalonia and nearly eight degrees higher than the UK’s average for April.
Andy Ratcliffe, weather forecaster at MeteoGroup, said: “It’s dry for most of the UK, away from the west of Scotland, and most places are seeing sunshine and feeling warm.

Sally Webb, a forecaster at MeteoGroup, said reports of possible thunderstorms due to incoming warm air from the continent - a phenomenon known as the Spanish Plume - were probably premature.
“It is a bit early in the season to be considering something like the Spanish Plume and we will just see a continuation of the weather from the weekend,” she said.
The average UK temperature for April is 11.4C (52F) and for England is 12.4C (54F), according to the Met Office.
