Met Office issues yellow weather warning for snow and ice across Yorkshire

Heavy snow is forecast across most of Yorkshire today, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for the region.

The snow and ice warning is in place across South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and parts of North Yorkshire.

The snow may cause travel disruption in parts of the region, forecasters warn, with the possibility of cars getting stranded on higher routes.

There may be delays and cancellations to train services and untreated pavements and cycle paths might be dangerous or even impassable, posing a greater risk of injuries and accidents.

Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

Heavy rain is expected in East Yorkshire and on the North Yorkshire coast.
