Passengers stranded on Leeds-bound train for 90 minutes

COMMUTERS were trapped on a broken-down train in West Yorkshire for 90 minutes this morning, causing delays on rush-hour services into Leeds.

Passengers on an 8am service from Ilkley to Leeds were told “a loss of air pressure” was to blame as their train ground to a halt about 15 minutes into its journey.

Following trains were delayed and then diverted, eventually arriving more than half an hour late.

A passenger on the stricken train said: “It was one of the extra services they laid on a year ago using very old rolling stock.

People were standing in the aisles and we were stationary for about an hour before we moved again. The whole journey took an hour and a half.”

Network Rail blamed a broken-down train for the incident.
