Here's what to do if you see a dog trapped inside a hot car"Dispatched to a 999 call of a report of a dog locked in a car at Temple Newsam. I don’t think I’ve ever sprinted so fast in my entire life to reach the dog. Luckily the owner had removed the dog from the car before we had got there. The dog is fine."

Temple Newsam's grounds and parkland are popular with dog walkers.

The hot summer has led to a number of high-profile cases of police officers smashing car windows to rescue dogs - who can die after just a short period left inside a stationary vehicle.
