The outlook for the rest of the week in Yorkshire is forecast to be wet and gloomy, with cold, breezy conditions and outbreaks of rain this evening, and temperatures falling to a chilly 3C in some parts.

Tomorrow will remain wet and windy, with gales likely along coastal areas and in hilly parts, but temperatures will feel much milder, reaching a maximum of 14C.

From Thursday through to the end of the week, strong winds and occasional heavy showers will hit parts of the region until Friday evening, with thick clouds sweeping in on Saturday.

The Met Office is warning of delays to public transport, with some bridges and exposed roads potentially set to close on Thursday when the worst of the weather will hit.

Commuters should expect longer journey times and possible power cuts, which may affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

There is also a warning of 'danger to life' in coastal areas, from 'large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties'.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris said: “It now looks very likely that we will see a major change in the UK’s weather early in the week ahead.

"We expect spells of wet and windy weather to sweep across the UK from the south-west from Tuesday, although at the moment there is uncertainty around the timing and the focus for the heaviest rain and strong winds by Wednesday as Storm Diana approaches our shores."
